Caprese Skewers with Cherry Tomatoes, Mozzarella, Basil, and Olives

These easy Caprese skewers are one of those simple appetizers that always look beautiful on the table without needing much effort.

Fresh cherry tomatoes, creamy mini mozzarella balls, fragrant basil, and black olives come together in a colorful little bite that feels fresh, light, and full of flavor.

I love making these when tomatoes are in season, but the best part is that you can find these ingredients almost all year round. They are perfect for serving at summer BBQs, potlucks, family gatherings, picnics, or as a quick fresh appetizer for almost any occasion. Light, colorful, and easy to eat, they always disappear fast once they hit the table.

Ingredients for 10 Caprese Skewers

  • 20 cherry tomatoes
  • 10 mini mozzarella balls
  • 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 10 pitted black olives
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste, optional
  • 10 mini wooden skewers

Instructions

1. Wash the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves, then gently pat them dry with paper towels. This helps the skewers stay fresh and prevents extra moisture from watering down the flavor.

2. Take one mini wooden skewer and start by adding one cherry tomato.

3. Add one fresh basil leaf. If the basil leaves are large, fold them in half before placing them onto the skewer.

4. Add one mini mozzarella ball, followed by another basil leaf and a second cherry tomato.

5. Finish each skewer with one pitted black olive at the end. The olive adds a savory touch that balances beautifully with the fresh tomato, creamy mozzarella, and basil.

6. Repeat the process until you have 10 Caprese skewers.

7. Arrange the skewers on a serving plate or platter.

8. Just before serving, drizzle lightly with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.

9. Sprinkle with sea salt and, if desired, a little freshly ground black pepper.

10. Serve immediately and enjoy as a fresh appetizer, snack, or party bite.

These Caprese skewers are best served fresh, while the tomatoes are juicy, the basil is bright, and the mozzarella is nice and creamy.

Make It Your Own

You can easily adjust these Caprese skewers depending on what you have at home or the occasion. Use mixed-color cherry tomatoes for a brighter platter, swap black olives for green olives, or add a small piece of prosciutto for a more savory version. You can also serve them with extra balsamic glaze on the side so everyone can add as much as they like.

These skewers are best served fresh, but you can assemble them a few hours ahead and keep them covered in the refrigerator. Wait to add the olive oil, balsamic glaze, salt, and pepper until just before serving so everything stays fresh and beautiful.
